IIPM celebrates International Women Day 2013

With the growing number of cases related to physical violence against women there is a rise of insecurity amongst them especially after the 16th December incident last year. And the worst part of it is that, we are still not prepared enough to protect ourselves from such ghastly crimes. Therefore GID Club at IIPM Delhi had recently introduced a workshop on self defense for its students just in order to make them more aware and also help them improve their safety. For this we had invited national & international level taekwondo trainers from the South District Taekwondo Association. Mrs. Jyoti Nagpal (4th Dan black belt - a national & international player. She is also the Technical Director of South District & an international referee) and her team who have been conducting numerous such workshops focusing on self defense for women, had come to show us the basic techniques which could be used in case a person faces an unforeseen situation in their day to day life. They started by first demonstrating the ways a girl can use objects that are readily available, such as a hand bag, pen, book or even her mobile phone as a weapon to protect herself if she faces any such situation. Not only that, they also showed techniques of how to protect oneself when we are threatened by a group of people be it a girl or a boy. In the end, they also invited some of the girls to come ahead and demonstrate whatever was taught to them to ensure that they learnt the technique well. At last, Prof. Angshuman Paul gave a vote of thanks to the guests and also presented them the guest of honor trophy.
