GIDF conducts a Breast Cancer & Anti-Tobacco Awareness Campaign
GIDF had recently conducted a breast cancer & anti – tobacco awareness campaign for its beneficiaries in Mandi Village, South Delhi on the 21st of February, 2013. The awareness talk was done in association with CPAA (Cancer Patients Aid Association) and was supported by the Kendriya Vihar Prermier League(KVPL). We first had all the women of the community gathered, to attend the campaign on breast cancer. An effort from our side to raise awareness and reduce the stigma through education on symptoms & treatment. Breast Cancer Specialist - Dr. Shiveta Razdan (Medanta Hospital, Gurgaon) conducted the session, which included addressing issues such as early detection, symptoms, myths, cure etc. not only this, at the end of the session the women also came ahead to have a one on one session with the specialist.
On completion of first campaign, we then conducted another session on anti –tobacco for all the community people which comprised mostly men including school going children as well. The talk was conducted by Dr. Prabhat Raina (Onco Surgeon - Jamia Hamdard Hospital, New Delhi) where he explained about the harmful effects caused by consuming Tobacco, the ways we can prevent its consumption etc. followed by a round of questions asked by the beneficiaries. On the whole, the event was a success. Pamphlets were also distributed by the Cancer Patients Aid Association, amongst the beneficiaries and we hope to conduct more such events in the other states that GIDF has its presence in.
