Sakshi: Learning To Learn, (Pune)
A GIDF Educator spotted Sakshi playing outside her home in Mathoba Nagar community in Pune. She was all dishevelled and it was apparent she wasn’t taken care of properly. On further enquiry, we found that her parents didn’t care much about education of the girl child. Sakshi’s father is a auto-driver, and he feels he doesn’t earn enough to afford a school for his daughter. After a series of home visits, our educator managed to convince her father to send her to the local ACM GIDF ECD centre. To begin with, Sakshi was one of the naughtiest kids at the centre. Loaded with mischief, with no regard for discipline, she was neither willing to listen to anybody nor play in the group. Our educator took it up as a challenge. She started identifying areas that interest her, and make her learn through various crafts, games and poems. With time, there was a visible shift in her attitude. She started behaving properly, She starting behaving properly, sit with other children, and started concentrating in the studies. Starting from absolute scratch, now she is able to read words, count the numbers, tell the name of fruit, vegetables, flowers and identify the colours. Sakshi has now cleared the entrance test of the local government school. Her parents have realised the importance of education, and have now started convincing their neighbours to send their kids to our centre.
