The Dream of a Healthy India – Come True

A vast majority of Indians are devoid of basic and adequate healthcare facilities. Available facilities are also often in deplorable conditions with shortages of medicines, doctors and nursing personnel’s.

GIDF provides healthcare facilities to the poor and downtrodden through its Mobile Health Outreach Programme (MHOP) at their doorstep. Initially when we started MHOP in some of the most backward villages of Raghogarh block of Guna, MP we found that the present conditions in these villages was extremely horrible with not even a single health facility or hospital in & around the village, the villagers were totally dependent on the quacks & their fake medicines making the condition worse.

When we started conducting medical camps under MHOP, our medical team came across a patient Parsu Ram Lodha who lives in Bhulay village in Guna, MP. He was 55 Years old & was suffering from Asthma from last six years. Lack of medical facilities deprived him of availing the right kind of medical treatment & his poor economic condition didn’t allow him to go for treatment in private hospital in the district. As a result his condition became worse day by day. Slowly, he got more prone to the disease & started having breathing problems which made him physically very weak & mentally stressed as well.

Parsu Ram Lodha is the only earning member in his family though he has young sons but as they are illiterate & irresponsible towards the family so the entire burden of running the family is on his shoulder. As he had no one to support him in his agricultural work which requires a lot of labour so he had a hard time to plough the fields & carry his day to day activities.

During this period of time he came in contact with some local quacks in the village & started taking their medicines but he had no relief & at last he even tried some traditional Jhaad Phook (broomstick village magic).

When our medical counselor asked him why he had not gone for any treatment till date, he said that “I don’t have money for the treatment & the local village quack has told me that there is some kind of evil spirit in me.” In turn our medical team counseled him & told him to get out of this vicious circle of quacks & jhad phook. GIDF’s medical team conducted his through medical check up & provided him the required treatment & medication. During a period of five and a half month his situation was under control & started improving day by day.

After Parsu Ram Lodha case we encountered similar other cases in the area & formulated a new strategy under which we started conducting special camps, movie shows, street plays for selected diseases in all the targeted communities so as to create a general awareness among the people regarding health issues.

Today, Parsu Ram Lodha is living a health life & has become an active community mobilizer by motivating other villagers to attend GIDF’s MHOP camp who are suffering from any health problems. “GIDF has given me a new ray of hope to live”, he announces.
